Contest Description
(Team of 2) Competitors are required to plan and shoot a video (generally 30 seconds or one minute in length) on location to convey the theme of the event. Editing is done in the competition area with special emphasis on professional production of the video by industry standards, quality of audio and video and adequate conveyance of the theme to the viewer of the final piece.

SkillsUSA 2025 Television Video Production Contest
The Television (Video) Production contest will focus on the production portion done at
nationals (students will not know the job or client until the day of the contest), a
knowledge test at the state competition, and a 60-second PSA/Infomercial.
At the state competition, competitors will be given their prompt on the morning of the
contest. Once given the prompt, students will have allotted time to film and edit. Our
competition is scheduled to start on Thursday morning, March 27th, at 8:00 AM and run
until 4:30 PM. Students can check in at 7:30 AM. Workstations with power will also be
provided. Teams will be set up at their own tables. Once the contest starts, students will
have eight hours to complete the competition, with a lunch break provided.
*These times may be adjusted depending on how lunch scheduling is handled. The
Technical Lead will provide more information before the beginning of the contest.
Competition Clothing:
SkillsUSA Championships clothing requirements, as outlined in the technical standards,
have been established for the National Leadership and Skills Conference. Clothing will
be judged at the beginning of the contest. After judging, students may change their
shoes for the remainder of the contest. The clothing classifications can be reviewed on
the SkillsUSA website.
Supplies competitors will need for the state competition:
- SD Cards or other media to record footage (Suggested: Class 10 cards with at least
32GB of space)
- Cameras and Lighting Equipment
- Audio equipment (audio recorders, mics, headphones, stands/booms, etc.)
- USB Thumb Drive (This is what the completed, exported project will be submitted on
at the end of the competition time.)
- Computers with editing software
• Students are also allowed to bring and use their personal computers. Personal
laptops or computers should have Adobe CC or whatever editing software is preferred
already installed. It is up to the competitors to provide their own laptop or computer.
• Only one laptop and one camera per team are allowed.
• Internet access is not allowed. If any team is caught using the internet, the team may
lose points or be disqualified.
• No stock footage may be used. Any music must be copyright-free or public domain.
