Building a Stronger Workforce Takes ALL of US

SkillsUSA celebrates several Heritage Months that are recognized by the federal government that match communities identified in career and technical education (CTE) legislation. This signals our deeply held commitment to spotlight various community groups that make our diverse workforce strong, dynamic and productive. For November, we recognize SkillsUSA member Navajo Technical University student Angel Joe for “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month” to showcase her winning a bronze medal in the 2024 Restaurant Service competition in Atlanta and her drive to come back in 2025 to do even better. Learn more about Angel Joe in the SkillsUSA Champions story. Also in November, we’ll recognize SkillsUSA member West Point Military Academy student Aidan Simao for “National Veterans and Military Families Month” to acknowledge his perseverance and acceptance into the academy. Learn more about Aidan Simao in the SkillsUSA Champions story. For more on SkillsUSA’s commitment to diversity and our Heritage month recognitions, visit our website. By expanding our vision of CTE, we increase the economic prosperity of our students, communities and nation.

Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week: Nov. 17-23

Join us in recognizing National Apprenticeship Week (NAW), a nationwide effort led by the U.S. Department of Labor. This week unites business leaders, educators, apprentices, and others to spotlight the important role apprenticeships play in closing the skills gap and preparing the future workforce. Your chapter can participate by hosting high school career fairs, industry roundtables, apprenticeship graduations, or submitting state or local proclamations in support of NAW and apprenticeships. With the SkillsUSA guide, you can also organize a fun, engaging event where businesses and alumni visit your school to share apprenticeship information and success stories, creating a memorable experience for students. SkillsUSA is offering resources to help your chapter including social media graphics, a SkillsUSA Guide for inviting industry into your chapter and a NAW Guide for hosting off-site events at company locations. You'll also receive fact sheets, success stories, proclamation templates and more. Be sure to share your event afterward!

SkillsUSA Recruitment Week Resources Available

SkillsUSA Recruitment Week resources are available to enhance your chapter events, support your chapter officers and provide valuable tools for engaging students throughout the week. The new materials include officer and advisor resources and guides, marketing materials and recruitment practice materials.  Career Essentials Suite Courses for MS, HS and C/PS Students

·         Learners in any trade area access their Career Essentials course online through their account in SkillsUSA Absorb. Instructors monitor student progress via an admin dashboard.

·         Instructors have control over which (and how many) projects students complete.

·         Learners have access to their course for 365 days after enrollment.

·         Instructors can use the entire course, a segment of a course, or even individual unit depending on their available time and budget. View pricing and purchase options.
