SkillsUSA Week T-shirt Design Challenge

SkillsUSA is seeking student designs for the official T-shirt of SkillsUSA Week 2023. One design will be selected and produced by the SkillsUSA Store. The contest is open to all paid student members. Only one entry per SkillsUSA member is permitted. Designs should be appropriate for use on a red T-shirt and follow the design specifications outlined in the Challenge Guide. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. ET.

Advisor of the Year Program (NEW REQ)

Beginning this year the Advisor of the Year will have two requirements, Paid Professional Membership and achieve minimum Level 2 within the SkillsUSA Chapter Excellence Program for the current year.

The SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year program recognizes Professional members who actualize the organization's mission of empowering students to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens. A SkillsUSA chapter is only successful with the support of an Advisor who has dedicated themselves to career and technical education by intentionally integrating the SkillsUSA Framework and ensuring students can articulate the skills they have developed. State recipients are submitted to the regional competition. During NLSC, regional winners are interviewed, and a national winner is selected. The deadline to submit state-level recipients is April 1, 2023.

Seeking Successful Skilled Trades Grads for Champions Magazine

As SkillsUSA’s Office of Communications looks at our 2022-23 SkillsUSA Champions magazine editorial calendar, we’d like to write more articles in the coming year about students who went directly into the workforce after high school. If you know of SkillsUSA graduates who entered a fulfilling skilled trades career directly out of high school within the past 10 years who are successful in their pathway, we would love to be put in touch. These students may have earned an industry credential in their high school CTE program, completed a dual enrollment program with their community college or entered an apprenticeship program. They may have been employed during high school and planned to continue with that employer after graduation.

We anticipate that these students are successfully employed because of the skills they gained through SkillsUSA and their CTE program and that they did not incur student loan debt to launch their career. We plan to focus this story on students who did not go on to further education unless that education was through a SkillsUSA scholarship. If these students went to work for a partner that they met through SkillsUSA, we would love to hear about that too.

Please send a brief description of your graduate to Karen Kitzel. We would like to know their age, trade, employer and hometown as well as their email address and cellphone number. We will then follow up with your graduate and keep you updated if we plan to write about them.

#MadeInSkillsUSA Fall Social Media Campaign

SkillsUSA Champions: Show the nation what you made … and what you’re made of! SkillsUSA wants to showcase the great accomplishments our members make every day as skilled workers and leaders. Share a photo that highlights YOUR skilled accomplishments using the hashtag #MadeInSkillsUSA. That photo can represent something you made with your hands in or outside the classroom (a construction project, a graphic, a beautiful hairstyle, a culinary creation, etc.) It can also represent a personal achievement made in and through SkillsUSA (landing a job or internship, delivering a speech, leading a meeting, etc.). Through this campaign, members can explore different career clusters and connect with each other through their mutual love of SkillsUSA.

Rules

· Post a photo or series of photos using the hashtag #MadeInSkillsUSA.

· Add a caption that explains the photo(s) and the skills or knowledge gained.

· Tag your advisor or other chapter members who helped you.

· Be sure to use the campaign hashtag #MadeInSkillsUSA.
